So Lady TheDuck is very against me getting a Miata. She thinks it’s too small, unsafe, and imagines me flying out of it in an accident. As a result, the latter, all convertibles, are banned. However!

She wants us to get motorcycles. Something along the lines of a Grom or Z125. She doesn’t know what those are but her description of what she wants fits to those types.

Problem being, among many, is they basically fit why I can’t have a Miata. Add to the fact she isn’t always the most coordinated, I do worry a bit.

So, forgo Miata thoughts for 2 wheels bad? Hope they’re a gateway to more fun bikes/cars? Or, keep her off anything with 2 wheels?

i’m 100% for no miata and 2wheels good. I’ve driven a few of them. they dont compare even remotely to a bike.

100% a gateway to more bikes. you will soon find groms and Z125s arent really that great for much else then fucking aorund the neighboor hood.

dont worry about fitting. bikes are MUCH more easily modifed to fit then a car. new rear sets and a new bar. BAM

HOWEVER.

the co-ordination thing worries me a bit. how un-coordinated would you say she is?

My exact thoughts. I like the idea of a little bike for around town and whatnot though. It's growing on me. Don't really have the room for another car but bikes don't take up much room.

She self describes as pretty clumsy. I worry more in emergency stuff. She surprises me sometimes though. I was worried how she'd handle a gun but she turned out to be pretty good.

Get a Jeep. With a hardtop. Then after a month or so swap it for a softtop.

It’s a progression. She’ll be comfortable with the Jeep (cause it’s just an SUV, tough as nails and perfectly “safe”), then discover that in reality it’s just a convertible. Once she’s comfortable with that, you can swap for a Miata.

It might take longer than a month.

I got t-boned in my Miata. I got a scratch on my arm. If I had been t-boned on a Grom or any other bike (I was in town, by the way, 30mph speed limit) I would be dead. Like, closed casket dead, not just normal dead.

Bikes are fun and all, but any car is safer on public roads than a motorcycle, no way around that. MX-5s come with good roll protection nowadays, too.

Yeah I mean Miatas aren’t SAFE so to speak but you’re still surrounded by metal and on a bike.... You’ll just wind up a smear on the road
